Telltale Games has a current trendy franchise to use as opposed to their other recent games that targeted our great childhood nostalgia. Building on this franchise they provide an exciting and engaging story of one man's challenge to protect a young girl during the apocalypse.
pro
Excellent character development throughout early episodes. During these episodes you bond with the core characters and see your character, Lee, thrust into an unwanted role model position.
pro
Season one is an emotional roller coaster. The episodes are scattered throughout with moments of intense violence and of extreme sadness. They end with a finale that has you guessing what the second season will bring.
pro
Controls are vastly improved from Telltale's past point-and-click style adventures. Although not perfect, they feel a lot more comfortable on a console controller than in the past.
pro
End of episode statistics were always interesting to get an idea how many others had similar thoughts during the game.
con
Rushing the product was not the best choice. Every episode was filled with glitches and hiccups throughout. From stuttering and slowdowns in gameplay to out of sync audio and movements. By episode 5 these problems were a lot less, but still numerous. The last thing you want in the middle of an action sequence is the game to sit there doing nothing for several seconds.
con
Choices presented don't really provide you with the tailored story promised. Many events will occur the same way no matter what you choose. The ones that really affect you are the life or death choices for certain characters. These decisions give you the satisfaction to experience events and dialogue in way you would handle the situation.
con
After building great relationships and great stories for starting characters, those characters are quickly replaced with disposable ones. These new characters just make a brief appearance to fill a gap and nothing more. Episode 4 is where these disposable characters were primarily used and felt more like a filler episode while you waited for Episode 5.
