Oh snap, we’re almost there aren’t we? With the launch of the PS4 next month comes a 300 MB day one patch that unlocks a bunch of the features we’ve been expecting from the system.
These include – but are not limited to:
– Remote play between Vita and PS4. Most titles are expected to support this. Remember to keep your Vita updated as well to get this working.
– Second screen through the PS4 app that you can install on your phone and tablets.
– Record and publish the last 15 minutes of gameplay.
– Broadcast through Ustream and Twitch
– Play while downloading. Not supported by all games.
– 4 user login on the same system, each one with their own save games and trophies.
– Voice chat for up to 8 people
– … and more.
Now, this is all well and good, but there are a few bumps in the road in this announcement.
First of all the announcement explains that you can capture the last 15 minutes and share this on Twitter and Facebook. There is no mention of Youtube, but then again Twitter doesn’t store video so it’s gotta go somewhere. Facebook only, or stored in the cloud and embedded in these various services? An option for Youtube should definitely be there.
Background music is great, but they specify their own service Music Unlimited as the key component to this. Are we limited to background music/custom soundtrack from Music Unlimited only, or can we play off our own stuff on the HDD?
System suspend/resume that works so perfectly on the Vita will not be available at launch. This was one of the highlights and it’s sad not having it there from the get-go considering how much I use it on the Vita.
