Let’s take a look at the announced specs and features for the two big next-gen consoles. PS4 vs. Xbox One.

The “AMD Radeon” GPU in the PS4 & Xbox One are not equal. The GDDR5 isn’t the only big difference despite popular belief.
PS4:
AMD Radeon GCN 1.x GPU (on APU)
18 Compute Units / 1152 GCN Cores
32 ROPS (Fillrate)
8 ACES * 8 Compute Queues = 64 Compute Queues
Xbox One:
AMD Radeon GCN 1.x GPU (on APU)
12 Compute Units / 768 GCN Cores
16 ROPS (Fillrate)
2 ACES * 2 Compute Queues = 4 Compute Queues
The PS4 has 50% more raw shader performance, a 100% increase in fillrate and a 700% increase in compute (gpgpu) queue granularity.
This isn’t negligible and just because they share the same system architecture doesn’t mean they’re equal. The PS4’s gpu holds a performance advantage of around 50% before you even take into account compute capabilities and the rest.
At least on your comparison chart put the below with the appropriate green/red colours..
[AMD Radeon (18 CU / 32 ROP / 1.8TF)] vs [AMD Radeon (12 CU / 16 ROPS / 1.2TF)]
Added!
the PS4 has no cloud computing, they don’t even have cloud servers
and NO gaikai hasn’t got cloud computing because Gaikai is 100% digital.
microsoft has huge servers over the whole world (Azure cloud)
and this cloud computing can triple the CPU power
the xbox one have an hide motion sensor IR light inside the controller …pls correct
Provide a link..
The ps4 does cloud computing also.

ill pass that alone to the author, thanks!
Game streaming is 100% cloud computed, so yeah it’s been confirmed since day one. It’s a bit redundant that they’d have to tell everyone that they can also do as little as an individual process.
it’s possible but not now because Sony doesn’t have supercomputers that do the cloud computing so before they can ever do it they need to build supercomputers (100+ milion
and streaming isn’t the same as computing Krepler
Since PS4 is region free, does this mean it will be able to play PAL games from Asia if the person bought a PS4 from North America?
Yes, I assume so.
The PS4 is definitely not backwards compatible. I wouldn’t count Gaikai streaming as such. Also, the PS4 does have a companion app for Android & iOS (and Vita of course) for second screen functionality, so you don’t need to have a Vita for that, though for Remote Play you probably do. Watchdog demoed just that in the E3 presentation (on an XPeria Tablet Z if I saw it right).
The Xbox One controllers now have lithium-ion battery packs and no longer us the AAA battery packs please update your article.
No, this package is an expensive add-on, all Xbox One bundles will come with AAA batteries.
It should be noted that the PS4’s hard drive is replaceable, which means you can upgrade it yourself, that’s a pretty important difference.
I added this as “Replaceable HDD”.
PS4: What’s about Remote Play with PS Vita? Is this a point as well?
Fixed! Thanks for the tip!
some things you missed about complete specs
CPU:
PS4 = 8 core Jaguar processor. 1.6 GHz. 1 thread per core, and 2 ops per thread, for a total of 16 ops according to Sony.
X1 = 8 core CPU processor. 1.75 GHz. No detailed structure thus far, but Microsoft has confirmed that it performs 48ops total.
BUS:
PS4 = 3 Bus Pipelines. Onion, Garlic and Super Onion. These allow for HAS and Huma operations between processor and GPU in connection to the GDDR5 RAM.
X1 = 8 Bus Pipelines, 2×256 Bit Buses with 4 lanes each. One pipeline to the ODESRAM, and one to the DDR3 RAM. Additional Bus Pipelines to the CPU on both the DDR3 and the ODESRAM, as well as various Bus Pipelines to the Audio, Video, and Memory controllers and Kinect.
HDD:
PS4 = 500 GB Removeable. 5200 RPM.
X1 = 500 GB Permanent. 7200 RPM. + 8GB Flash Memory HDD.
AUDIO:
PS4 = Dedicated audio processor with bulk of processing directly on CPU/GPU.
X1 = Dedicated audio processor capable of processing almost all Audio and Kinect functions without using CPU/GPU resources.
MOVE ENGINES:
PS4 = None.
X1 = Move Engines are separate internal processing hardware that will allow the system to move data around without using CPU/GPU resources.
these can all be comfirmed if you do a detailed search.
