Maybe it was to answer the tiny bits of critisism from the E3 demo regarding the amount of scripted stuff, or maybe it was just to show how awesome it looks. Whatever reason, here’s more lovely The Last of Us footage.
The video is a very extended version of what you’ve previously seen, building up to the tense action sequence in and out of the hotel rooms. The most important thing is what happens when you change how you approach the scene and how it pans out as a result of this. That in itself should turn around some of the critics. I have to admit though, that I do find myself with a bit of doubt as to how it can look so fluent and alive no matter what you do in the game. But this is Naughty Dog after all, right? The level of detail is astounding. From the way the sign moves and dust falls off when Ellie is boosted up the ledge, to the small grunts and groans as you sneak around, hold someone hostage or hit them over the head with a pipe. It’s becoming pretty damn clear that this game will make an impact, and we can’t wait to try it out next year. In the meantime, please take 15 minutes of your day and let yourself be amazed.
“Not a fucking word”
Where do i begin? Everything they show is just what i want from a “spiritual successor” of Uncharted. While Uncharted it is popcorn Hollywood (in a good way) this is gritty horror. I love slow pace, reminds me of Resident Evil, and how you have to take your time figuring out the movements of your enemies. Sure, i bet you can go in guns(or bricks) blazin’ but i really don’t think you will get very far with that tactic.
One concern though I got from watching this version of the demo is how Ellie moves in the environment together with Joel. In the demo it works out find and she finds places to hide, but i can easily see how it can be a problem when there are multiple enemies surrounding you and you want to stay hidden/undetected. Maybe you will be able to tell her to stay down with some kind of communication.
