In LittleBigPlanet for PlayStation Vita, you will join Sackboy on a new and this time around mobile and tactile adventure. The game lets you explore 6 new themes on the fairground planet Carnivalia. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to foil the mysterious Puppeteer’s evil plans and bring fun and laughter back to Carnivalia.
The game will feature the same core mechanics as LittleBigPlanet 2 and you will of course be able to customize your Sackboy or Sackgirl and your surroundings with the tools that the Vita has to offer. Multi-touch controls makes rotating and resizing a breeze and snapping materials and stickers with the built-in camera gives you more freedom than before. You can also use the touch-screen display to directly draw objects and platforms in the game world. Creators can also manipulate multiple objects at once by using the new lasso select feature and quickly pan and zoom the camera through the rear touch screen. The built-in microphone can be used to record sound or voice over effects.
Another new nifty tool is the Memorizer. With it you are able to copy and create items and inventory that carry over from level to level and it also remembers if a level has been played before and can make the changes necessary based on that information. Very handy if you want to make a loot based game or even an RPG.
New in this addition of LitleBigPlanet are the touch (front & rear) and tilt controls and and with NEAR you can find and challenge other players in your neighborhood. The sharing is still a huge part of the franchise but there are also new multiplayer modes, like pass’n’play, local same screen multiplayer and online multiplayer for up to four players.
The upcoming fourth game in the series, is jointly developed by Double Eleven Limited and Tarsier Studios. The focus is trying to be a “platform for games” rather than just a platformer.

Are you picking up the new LBP and what do you think about the touch controls?
While there certainly are a bunch of nifty features, and some of the levels I played in the beta were simply amazing… I dunno, I kinda lost interest. Since I’m not a part of the creative groupe of people that invest heaps of time making levels my time with the game severely drops.
That doesn’t mean I won’t get it, but probably not at launch.
I’m personally really excited about the story campaign. The art and atmosphere of the previous ones has been so well-crafted and inventive. It’s the kind of game that just puts a big smile on your face!
The thing for me though, is that LBP is such a great multiplayer experience and I don’t see that in the Vita version. Yes, ad-hoc of course but it’s really not the same for me. 4 peeps in the couch all messing around on the big screen is where the fun is at. For those who doesn’t really care about that bit I’m sure this is great and I might give it a go at some point.
Hmm, that’s a good point. I’ve actually never played the story in a LBP alone… Plus there was a lot of places where you had to help each other out to solve puzzles, i guess they have to tone that bit down now.
There are still spots only reachable by multiple players in the Vita-version. How many in total though I don’t know, but I encountered some.
