You might have heard of Gearbox Software. They made Borderlands and Borderlands 2. They also made Aliens: Colonial Marines which is making some people nervous in lieu of today’s news about their acquisition of the Homeworld franchise from THQ. Relic released Homeworld back in 1999 and followed up with Homeworld: 2 in 2003 (Homeworld: Cataclysm was developed by Barking Dog Studios and released in 2000).
Brian Martel, Gearbox Software’s Chief Creative Officer says he “has great love and respect for Relic’s brilliant, fun and innovative games” and promises to take good care of the IP. Something I think would be a smart thing for Gearbox to do.
To read the official statement check out their announcement where you’re also invited to take part in the discussion of Homeworld’s future. They are also looking for people interested in participating in its development, so if that sounds tempting now is the time to knock on their virtual door.
Randy Pitchford chimed in to reassure the fans:t
