CD Projekt RED announces single player campaign and esport tournaments for Gwent

It’s been a while since a card game was simply just a card game. Gwent was pretty amazing in The Witcher 3, so it only seemed natural that it would eventually break out and become its own thing. The public beta is ongoing, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t stuff planned beyond, you know, making it stable.

One new addition to the deck is a single-player story campaign evolving queen Meve and her battle to fight off an invasion. Apparently she sets out on a journey filled with revenge and destruction. There will be exploration, resource gathering and breaking of rules. All of these things are just cool words for playing cards. I think? The campaign is called Thronebreaker and it will be out later this year.

The second bit of news is the Gwent Masters, in which you can prove yourself as the ultimate Gwent player and thus be crowned the Gwent World Champion. The prize pools vary from $25 000 to $250 000 and it starts with the Gwent Open on August 25th and ends up with the World Masters in January 2019, with the Pro Ladder tournaments starting September 1st. Not a lot of time to become amazing, then.
