Sometimes a firmware update brings more than just a heavy dose of system stability, sometimes it brings the good stuff. Case in point, firmware 4.50 which is available for beta testers right now. What’s in it you say? I’ll tell you:
· External HDD support: Yep, it’s way overdue, but it’s coming. PS4 will now support external hdd’s up to 8 TB, which should make room for some more games, video clips and a motherload of screenshots.
· Custom wall papers: Use anything as your wall-paper. ANYTHING.
· Tweaks to the quick menu: It’s now a tiny bit smaller and comes packed with party features.
· Tidier notifications: Instead of having the notifications divided into sections, it will now be one glorious list of updates
· 3D blu-ray support for PSVR: Watch your 3D movies in your headset and then proceed to fall off your chair
· Status updates in your activity feed: Spread the love of what you’re doing along with a screenshot, directly into your what’s new section.
· Boost mode: Gives an oomph to games released prior to the mandatory Pro patches, which means you’ll get a smoother experience in a lot of old games
· Down-/upload save from home-screen: A godsend if you have several PS4s and need to quickly download or upload save games
The firmware is available for beta testers right now, so if you got the mail, simply update your PS4.
As usual, there are probably more features coming in 4.50 which simply isn’t officially listed, but you’ll hear about those soon enough.
