Announced today at GDC, Project Morpheus is Sony’s long rumored entry into the VR space of gaming. The device which is currently in prototype and also serves at the first development kit, is able to display resolution up to 1080p with a 90 degree field of view. It will utilize the PlayStation Camera for head tracking, as well as the DualShock 4 and Move controllers to complete the experience. The head mounted display will be an accessory to the PlayStation 4, and a price is yet to be announced. Don’t expect it to be cheap though, it sure looks fancy.
People attending GDC can check out the VR set at SCEA’s booth in the form of various tech demos. Among games already planned for the device is former Oculus Rift exclusive EVE Valkyrie – the CCP dogfighting game taking place in the EVE universe. Also on the floor at GDC is Thief, The Castle and The Deep.
