Ratchet & Clank returns in a short story akin to Quest for Booty, but this time you have to protect the world from vicious creatures from the nether-world. It's a short and confined story that doesn't quite reach the creative peak of Quest for Booty, but manages to be engaging and is sprinkled with Ratchet & Clank's signature humor. Despite its confined nature it still hooks into certain red threads that fans will recognize from the previous full blown adventures. The game contains just enough new stuff to separate it from the others, and especially Clank gets a cool fresh way to help out. It also features a Challenge mode (new game+) where you keep your weapons, collectibles and upgrades against tougher enemies.

pro

As usual there is no shortage of amazing and creative weaponry. A couple of oldies like the Omniblaster, Mr Zurkon and the Vortex Grenade returns, but you will also get to tap into some nether realm weaponry, some spooky stuff and even turn enemies into snowmen. A weapon can be leveled up like before, but each level also contains multiple paths of additional upgrades. It almost works like a skill tree which improves and extends existing features while also adding new ones to your weapon. To fully experience what each weapon can provide, you will have to embark on Challenge mode which adds an Omega class and further levels to your arsenal.

pro

The platforming in Ratchet & Clank: Nexus is some of the most solid platforming you get in this genre. Tight controls and well designed worlds make Nexus a pleasure to play and enjoy. Familiar gadgets like the Omniwrench and Slingshot return, and the game throws a few new mechanics your way; like the Grav Tether, which will make Portal fans smile.

con

It's a very short game. You will be able to extend playtime by gathering all collectibles and replaying the game in Challenge mode when you're done, but even with all this you might end up not getting that itch thoroughly scratched. It's such a tease.

con

The story is good, but never fantastic. It plays it safe and it never peaks, which is fine but ultimately a minor disappointment.
