Fast forward to 2012. Game director Ragnar Tørnquist starts his own development studio Red Thread Games and licenses the rights to the IP from Funcom to continue work on Dreamfall Chapters. In February this year they established a Kickstarter campaign that managed to pull in a whopping $1,538,425, $688,425 more than their initial goal (and the number has been rising since RTG opened the doors for donations through PayPal.). This means that come November 2014 you will be able to continue your long journey in the Dreamfall Chapters on PC, Mac and Linux.
Being self-published it made sense for Ragnar to speak up during all the commotion that came out of the Xbox One announcement, specifically the potential lack of support for indie developers. While Microsoft has later mentioned that they will have something for indie developers, specifics remain unknown and developers remain skeptic. A platform not shy of embracing indies is Sony, and not only do they aim to let developers self-publish their games on the upcoming PS4, but also decide details like pricing. This is good news for Red Thread Games, and Ragnar says PS4 is now the go-to console for a potential release for Dreamfall Chapters.
Curious as to what exactly this entails I contacted Ragnar to hear about Dreamfall Chapter’s console future, and this is what he had to say:
“We are aiming for a PS4 release at the end of next year – and the chance of this happening is big. I’m afraid we don’t have any details to share at the moment, but we’re aiming at taking advantage of as much of PS4’s potential as possible; especially when it comes to the console’s social aspects and the controller. We believe Dreamfall will be a perfect fit for this platform, without it negatively impacting the PC and Mac versions.”
